Inside the Schools Alaska Ignored

This is another old #Xitter trick. MAGA bots/trolls have infiltrated the #Bluesky Native/Indigenous community. Native/Indigenous people are getting their accounts suspended.

This is a prime example of why we need #Native #Indigenous owned and moderated social media like TurtleIsland.social.

Mastodon hosted on turtleisland.socialTurtle Island SocialNative owned and operated for Native/Indigenous people and true Allies only. TurtleIsland.social is ad-free, corporate-free, bigotry-free, and culture respectful.

TurtleIsland.social doesn’t get a lot of moderation reports, but when we do most of them are anti-Native and follow a similar path. No broken rules referenced, just ‘Other’. No description of the complaint, just check-marking Native posts or replies. Most likely because if you put a description to the racism, bigotry or fragility, it would sound incredibly stupid and wrong as it actually is...

Native people have been practically exterminated in North America. The killing and oppression have not stopped. It may be under-reported in mainstream (white) media, but Native people see non-stop deaths. Our women and children are raped, dismembered and more. Our coffins are garbage bags. Our graves are garbage dumps. All this is a continuum that stretches from invasion to today.

But yeah, let’s talk about white fragility...

Not surprised, but broken. Another blow to restoring Indigenous places names.

Department of Interior Advisory Committee on Reconciliation in Place Names: "The committee’s purpose is to identify existing federal land unit names and geographic feature names that may be considered derogatory and recommend potential replacement names to the Secretary of the Interior."

That doesn’t stop white people from greedily obliterating these sacred, treaty-protected foodways! They’ve built a whole ass boutique industry around them, and roped in marginalized demographics to do the labor, of course. If you’ve visited or lived in the #PNW you’ve probably encountered huckleberry sodas, ice cream, CBD gummies, and so forth — all made out of stolen #Indigenous foods, probably picked by underpaid workers.

A Rural Alaska School Asked the State to Fund a Repair. Nearly Two Decades Later, the Building Is About to Collapse.

Rural school districts depend on the state to fund construction and maintenance projects. But over the past 25 years, Alaska lawmakers have ignored hundreds of requests for public schools that primarily serve Indigenous children.

Mission Statement [reviwed and edited 24-12-21]
[but don't hold me to it]

After the devastating Dutch elections [‘23-11-22] I decided to dedicate my toots back to the original goal.
I care about a lot of issues, most global some national; but I won't be 'tooting' about them all.

First and formost I WANT to 'toot' about:
* #ClimateSolutions
Because I trust that most people reading know about the dreadfull future of climate change, I want to spread the, possible, solutions to a problem rather than reiterate on the problem.
* #ClimateJustice
One of those solution might be sueing the polluters or governments on human rights, violations or #Ecoside
* #ClimateAction
Action is by all means a solution.
* #ClimateEmergency
* #Climate

As said I want to focus on the global issue. I don't want to nitpick on too much principles. Like: "What's worse: eating cows or driving diesel?" Both are devastating behaviors of intitled rich people!
On the otherhand therefore I truly respect ANY effort to make a change for the better.

Most of all... I want to add instead of preach. Bring some bits of the puzzle to the table.

I'm NOT a scientist of any kind. I'm just a disabled old white guy typing on a desk reading and searching a lot.

I tend to toot 10-15 toots at 13:00* that I boost again unchanged at 20:00* the same day, but that's NOT a promise. [*=my [Amstedam] time]

But after a year or two there appear to be 4 general topics: #Climate #Gaza / #IsraeliGenocide #USpolitics and #Ukraine

I tend to follow anyone who 'retoots' or 'favourites' my toots. Forget it, I'm vain.
If any of my 'followers' wants to opt out... this is your chance, as always.

Young Native people, especially in their 20's, Women, Two-Spirit and LGBTQ really make me happy & give me hope.

When I was born, it was literally & for all practical purposes illegal to be Native, to express your culture, your identities, your sovereignty. Colonialism had suppressed & erased many things, some never to be recovered.

But now & especially with the newest generation, people are reconnecting, culture is being revived & in some cases birthed. It's great!

The Inchunwa Project: A journey to reviving Southeastern tribal tattoos

What began as a casual online discussion among Choctaw community members has grown into a cultural rebirth, reconnecting Native communities with their ancestral roots through the Inchunwa Project.

The story of Inchunwa began in 2017 when a small group of Choctaws started researching the cultural significance of traditional tattoos.
